One of the important pieces in multigrade teaching is knowing the curriculum thoroughly. Time spent comparing and contrasting a similar learning outcome across the grade levels enables a teacher to see the progression of learning (and therefore teaching) that is expected from grade to grade. Often the expected increments of growth between two grade levels is small, but those small steps of mastery at each grade level are significant in their cumulative effect.
In the scroll down menu, you will find multigrade-friendly versions for parts of our current BC curriculum. As teachers, we anxiously await the “new curriculum” of the BC Ed Plan; in the meantime, these documents may be helpful.
